WHAT YOU CAN GROW

The EarthBox® Staking System is the perfect solution for providing support to tall and vining crops in your EarthBox® Original gardening system! These are the sizes we recommend for each type of plant. Click on any of the images to be taken to our Growing Guide page where you'll learn how to succeed at growing each crop.

The 3' Staking System provides optimal support to reinforce top-heavy plants that need some structure near the bottom and crops that typically reach a maximum height of 3 feet. When assembled, the total height is 30.75” with casters and 28.25” without casters.

  • Peppers, eggplant, zucchini/summer squash, determinate patio/bush tomatoes, ground/husk cherries, tomatillos

The 5' Staking System is perfect for growing most vining plants that need a trellis for support. When assembled, the total height is 58” with casters and 55.75” without casters.

  • Tomatoes, peas/pole beans, winter squash (butternut, acorn, spaghetti, etc.), melons, pumpkins/gourds, blackberries

The 7' Staking System is ideal for growing exceptionally unruly plants that need extra support for extended growth. When assembled, the total height is 85.5” with casters and 83” without casters.

FAQ

Does the Staking System require casters?

The EarthBox® Staking System does not need casters unless you want to enable mobility with your garden. Without casters, the entire structure can be assembled and set in place. If you desire mobility, you will need a total of 6 casters for the Staking System.

If you already own a set of 4 EarthBox® Casters, or if you have opted to add casters to another product you’re ordering that will use the Staking System, you will only need to add the 2-pack of casters to your Staking System. If you don’t own any EarthBox® Casters, and you have not included them with another product on your order, you will need to add the 6-pack of casters to the Staking System, if mobility is desired.

EarthBox® Casters are custom sized and designed to work with the EarthBox® Original gardening system, EarthBox® Staking System, and EarthBox® Garden Stand. Using other casters may cause damage to your EarthBox®, which will not be covered under the Satisfaction Guarantee.

How is the Trellis Net customizable to the Staking System?

The EarthBox® Trellis Net is designed specifically to fit all sizes of the EarthBox® Staking System, with its height being customizable. If you have the 7’ Staking System, the entire length of the Trellis Net will fit, and no customization will be needed. If you have the 3’ or 5’ Staking System, you will need to trim the excess netting off at the bottom of the Trellis Net to customize the length to your Staking System. Any part that is trimmed off can be cut up and used to secure plants to the Staking System.

Can the Staking System be used with the EarthBox® Junior™ or EarthBox® Root & Veg™ gardening systems?

No. The EarthBox® Staking System is not compatible with these products, and can only be used with the EarthBox® Original gardening system (second-generation) pictured below.

EarthBox Original container dimensions

Is the Staking System compatible with the first-generation EarthBox® Original gardening system?

No. The Staking System is not compatible with the First Generation EarthBox® gardening system since the first-generation system does not have caster sockets, which are required for the Staking System Outriggers to attach to the system.

The First Generation EarthBox® gardening system was discontinued November 30, 2005. If you are unsure if your EarthBox® container is a first- or second-generation product, refer to the chart below.

Staking system compatibility chart

Can the Staking System be used with the EarthBox® Garden Stand?

No. The Staking System and Garden Stand are not able to be used with one another; and the Garden Stand is not intended for top-heavy crops to be grown.

The EarthBox® Staking System is intended to vertically grow tall, sprawling, or vining crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, squash, etc.

The Garden Stand is intended to raise low-growing crops off the ground, such as lettuce, broccoli, spinach, herbs, etc. to reduce the need for bending.

Can I make the Staking System taller?

Yes! If you have a 3’ or 5’ Staking System, the EarthBox® Extension Kit may be purchased to add another 1-2 levels to your Staking System. We do not recommend making the Staking System any taller than three levels (7’ Staking System) so the system does not fall over.
